‘Oh, you have a blog, that’s nice. But aren’t you going to run out of topics if you continue to contribute to it daily?’
Honestly, if I had a penny for every time I heard the above, I would have had AT LEAST five pence by now!!! (maybe more if I was actually listening to what most people had to say to me or about me)
I mean, if you think about it, I might even write a whole article on the said five pence and how inflation in the past five years has turned UK in a place where you can buy absolutely NOTHING with five pence.
Then, I can probably follow that up with yet another article on today’s notion of ‘NOTHING’ and the fact that most people cannot appreciate what they have and what they can lose.
I’ll then probably jump onto a discussion of what we gain by losing and how we can improve on that by sticking to and enjoying our day-to-day activities.
This will, most probably, lead onto a rant about people’s distorted perception of enjoyment and the effect that technology has had on the said perception.
And, then, who knows; owing to the recent boom in technology, I might want to dictate one of my future articles to my Smartphone and ask it to upload it to my blog.
See what I mean? I can NEVER run out of topics; not because I am an ultra- smart mastermind whose favourite piece of clothing is a mantle of omnipotence, embroidered with otherworldly wisdom and universal wit (no idea where that came from) but because I do not merely live and learn.
I live TO learn.
Contrary to common belief, I am not that interested in ruling the world with an iron fist (mainly because I haven’t GOT an iron fist…). What I AM interested in, however, is getting people to understand that constant self- improvement is of utmost importance not only to their personal well- being but that of the world itself.
Why?
Well, mainly because we cannot count on bunnies and koalas (cute as they are) to eradicate poverty and famine, to fix the economic crisis or patch up the holes in our ozone layer.
People are much too used to saying absurdities such as:
‘Why me?’
Why not? Are you scared that you might end up outside your ‘comfort zone’?
‘I’ll be dead in a hundred years anyway.’
And what if you’re not? Currently, scientists in Japan have successfully increased a lab mouse’s lifespan twofold. What makes you think that in, say, fifty years time the same won’t apply to people…?
‘I’ve got my own problems to deal with.’
Nope, you’ve got hurdles to overcome; man up.
‘Those problems are too distant to me.’
Touch wood then; those problems can travel pretty fast and are not very picky.
In the light of the above, I shall not run out of topics anytime soon merely because I do not want to and because I am trying to make a change.
You need to start small; remember, even giants were babies once.
